History

Futamata Station opened on July 16, 1988, with the inauguration of the Miyafuku Line operated by Miyafuku Railway, the predecessor of Kitakinki Tango Railway. The station sits in the Ōe district of Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, 15.4 kilometers from the line's terminus at Fukuchiyama Station. On April 1, 2015, operation of the Miyafuku Line was transferred to Willer Trains, trading as Kyoto Tango Railway, and the station became part of that network. It is an unattended single side-platform stop with only a shelter on the platform; because the station has no points or absolute signals, it is classed as a stopping place rather than a full station.

Notes

Futamata is officially nicknamed Washi no Sato Sarutahiko Jinja Mae (Washi-paper Village, Sarutahiko Shrine Front Station) by the local rail promotion council, after a nearby paper-heritage museum and shrine.
