History

Totsuka Station opened on 11 July 1887 as a stop on the Japanese Government Railways' Tokaido Main Line. When Yokosuka Line trains were electrified on 15 March 1930, all Tokaido Line through-services ceased calling, and only Yokosuka Line trains stopped at Totsuka until the 1 October 1980 SM-bunri grade-separation reinstated Tokaido stops. The current overtrack station building was completed on 26 March 1969. A temporary Yokohama Municipal Subway station opened on 24 May 1987 and was replaced by the permanent station on 27 August 1989. The Shonan-Shinjuku Line and Narita Express began stopping on 1 December 2001.

Notes

Totsuka is the only station outside the Tohoku Main Line corridor where the Ueno-Tokyo Line and Shonan-Shinjuku Line meet on the same platform for cross-platform transfers.
