History

Izumoshi Station opened on 10 October 1910 as Izumo-Imaichi Station, the terminus of the new Imperial Railway San'in Main Line extension from Shōbara. The Taisha Line opened to Taisha on 1 June 1912, and the San'in Main Line was extended to Oda on 21 November 1913. On 30 November 1947 the Shōwa emperor's special train called at the station, and the emperor stepped down to the platform to bow to war victims. The station was renamed Izumoshi on 1 April 1957, freight handling ended on 31 December 1983, and the station passed to JR West and JR Freight with the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987. The Taisha Line was abolished on 1 April 1990, the station was elevated under a continuous grade-separation project on 14 March 1998, automatic ticket gates entered service on 5 November 2016, and ICOCA acceptance began on 17 December 2016. Twilight Express Mizukaze began calling on 19 June 2017.
