History

Tamoto Station opened on 15 November 1935 on what is now JR Central's Iida Line, in the village of Yasuoka, Shimoina, Nagano Prefecture. It lies 104.2 kilometres from the line's starting point at Toyohashi Station. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR Central. The station consists of a single ground-level side platform serving one bi-directional track. There is no station building, only a small shelter on the platform, and the station has been unstaffed. The site sits in extremely steep terrain near the Tenryū River and is one of the lowest-usage stations on the Iida Line.

Notes

In fiscal 2016, Tamoto Station recorded an average of just two boarding passengers per day.
