History

Kamikawaguchi Station opened on 25 October 1911 in present-day Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, on what is now the San'in Main Line, 95.2 km from the line's terminus at Kyoto. The station has hosted one ground-level island platform and one side platform, connected to the station building by a footbridge, throughout most of its history; it is now unattended. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station came under the operation of the West Japan Railway Company (JR West). National Route 9 runs immediately adjacent to the station. Daily ridership has dwindled to around 45 passengers (fiscal 2016), reflecting the station's rural setting on a stretch of the San'in line that sees only local services.
