History

Iwato Station opened on 29 April 1935 as Maiso Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line, in what is now the city of Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture. It was renamed to its present name on 10 February 1941, suspended in 1944 during wartime austerity and reopened on 23 September 1956 as an unstaffed halt. A footbridge was added on 24 March 1987 with broader station renovations completing on 30 March 1987. Transpass and the station-management system arrived on 15 March 2005, Manaca IC ticketing on 11 February 2011, and platform improvement work was completed on 28 February 2018. Today it has two opposed side platforms only stopping locals, with the up platform running uncomfortably close to the parallel JR Tōkaidō Main Line tracks.
