History

Shiteguri Station opened on 18 August 1936 on the Iida Line in the village of Tenryū, Shimoina, Nagano Prefecture. It is 98.5 km from the line's starting point at Toyohashi Station. The station passed to JR Central at privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Shiteguri consists of a single ground-level side platform with only a waiting room — there is no station building — and the station is unattended. Daily ridership in fiscal 2016 averaged just 4 boarding passengers, making it one of the quieter halts on the line, which here parallels the Tenryū River.
