Hotaruda Station opened on 1 April 1952 on the Odakyu Odawara Line in the city of Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture, 79.2 kilometres from the line's Tokyo terminus at Shinjuku. The station is operated by the private Odakyu Electric Railway and has two opposed side platforms with three tracks, linked to the station building by a footbridge. Station numbering was rolled out across the Odakyu network in January 2014, when Hotaruda was assigned the code OH45.
