History

Kurihama Station opened on 1 April 1944 as a wartime addition to the Japanese Government Railways network, becoming the southern terminus of the Yokosuka Line. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1974, and at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways the station passed to JR East. Shonan-Shinjuku Line through services began calling here in December 2001, but the extension was withdrawn from October 2004 and the station reverted to a pure Yokosuka Line terminus. Trains use a single island platform, and the JR East Yokohama Training Centre adjoins the station yard.

Notes

Kurihama is a three-minute walk from Keikyu Kurihama Station on the parallel Keikyu Kurihama Line, but the two are formally separate stations rather than a JR-private interchange.
