History

Kute Station opened on 11 July 1915 with the Hakubi Main Line extension from Oda to Iwami-Oda (now Odashi), handling both passengers and freight. Freight handling ended on 7 November 1982 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985, when the station was made unstaffed. The 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways transferred Kute to JR West, briefly reintroducing staff, but the station was unstaffed again from 10 March 1990. The platform sits on a former island-platform layout; the track on the station-building side was lifted during a 2001 Sanin Main Line speed-up programme, leaving a single ground-level side platform on the Masuda-bound side. The wooden station building has since been demolished.
