History

Ichijima Station opened on 15 July 1899 as an intermediate stop on the Hankaku Railway between Kaibara and the former Fukuchiyama-Minamiguchi terminus. The Hankaku Railway was nationalised in August 1907, and a 1912 reorganisation placed the station on the JGR Fukuchiyama Line. The wooden ticket office was rebuilt in 1957. Freight handling ended in 1973 and parcels in 1984; staff were withdrawn in 1985. The station passed to JR West at the 1987 privatisation and lost its remaining simplified consignment ticket window on 1 April 2021, becoming an unstaffed stop equipped with ICOCA gates installed weeks earlier.
