History

Marunouchi Station opened on 22 September 1914 as Maru-no-uchi Station on the Nagoya Electric Railway's Kiyosu Line. Operating rights passed to Nagoya Railroad on 1 July 1921, and on 10 April 1928 the section between this station and Nishi-Kiyosu (today's Shin-Kiyosu) opened as part of what would become the Meigi Line, making Marunouchi a junction. Sometime between 1930 and 1934 the station was renamed Marunouchi. The Kiyosu Line was suspended on 10 June 1944 and formally abolished on 3 August 1948. The station became unattended on 1 October 1971, and Manaca IC ticketing started on 11 February 2011.

Notes

Marunouchi's two platforms are not connected within the station — passengers cannot cross from one direction's gate to the other without leaving the fare-paid area entirely.
