History
Inae Station opened on 1 July 1920 as an intermediate stop on the JGR Tōkaidō Line in present-day Hikone, Shiga Prefecture. Freight handling ceased in February 1963 and parcels in March 1985. The station passed to JR West on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR, and from 1988 has been marketed as part of the Biwako Line. ICOCA card use began in November 2003. A new elevated station building with east-west passage opened on 11 December 2016, replacing the long-serving 1920s structure. Station numbering JR-A16 was added in March 2018.
