History
Biwajima Station opened on 1 April 1886 as Kiyosu Station, the temporary western terminus of the JGR Tōkaidō Line extension from Atsuta in present-day Kiyosu, Aichi Prefecture. The original building, destroyed by the 1891 Nōbi earthquake, was rebuilt and the station was relocated and renamed Biwajima on 16 April 1906. JR Central inherited the station at the 1987 privatisation and TKJ's Jōhoku Line was added in March 1993 with the extension from Owari-Hoshinomiya. Freight handling ceased in 2006, and an elevated bridge-style station building opened on 13 December 2008. Station numbering CA69 was introduced in March 2018.
