History
Nishi-Biwajima Station opened on 23 January 1914 on what is today the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line, in the city of Kiyosu in Aichi Prefecture. Passenger service was suspended during the Pacific War, and reopened on 1 August 1949 after the abolition of nearby Biwajima-bashi Station. Long served by limited semi-express trains, the station was downgraded to local-only stops in 1987 when neighbouring Futatsuiri Station took over that role. Passing tracks remained in place until 2019, after which a complete rebuild produced a new station building that opened on 16 January 2021. The platforms now consist of two opposed sides with separate ticket gates for each direction.

Notes
The Biwajima Junction immediately north of the station — where the Inuyama Line diverges from the Nagoya Main Line — is one of the most densely used flat railway junctions in Japan, making this unattended local stop operationally critical.
