History

Higashi-Biwajima Station, operated by Meitetsu, is located in Nishi-ku, Nagoya. It opened on 6 May 1910 as a stop on the Biwajima Line, and the station was rebuilt on its present alignment on 12 August 1941 with the opening of the connecting east–west line. Until 2009 the station was staffed only during weekday mornings; weekend operations became unstaffed in December 2009, and the station was unstaffed at all times from 16 July 2016 under a central management system. A barrier-free upgrade was completed in April 2009 and a new station building opened in 2016.

Notes

Because Higashi-Biwajima sits closest to the Biwajima Junction where the Nagoya Main Line and the Inuyama Line split, Meitetsu permits passengers transferring between those lines to be ticketed via Sakō or Meitetsu Nagoya without paying the duplicated kilometres.
