History
Higashiōte Station, on the Meitetsu Seto Line in Naka-ku, Nagoya, was first opened on 1 October 1910 as a surface stop near the two Shimizu bridges. It was closed in 1944 during wartime consolidation. In February 1976 work began on extending the Seto Line into Sakaemachi, and the station was reopened on 20 August 1978 as an underground stop, replacing the abolished Ōtsumachi Station as an express stop after a thirty-four-year absence. The TranPass magnetic-card system was introduced on 16 December 2006, followed by Manaca IC fares on 11 February 2011. Barrier-free works including elevators and stair-lifts were completed on 25 March 2017. Most of the underground concourse lies beneath the special-historic-site outer moat of Nagoya Castle.

Notes
Because most of the underground concourse sits beneath the special-historic-site outer moat of Nagoya Castle, the original 1978 plans could not accommodate elevators at the originally intended locations.
