History

Imaike Station opened on 15 June 1960 as a station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway's Higashiyama Line, with the extension to Ikeshita. The Sakura-dōri Line, on which Imaike was the terminus at the time, opened to the station on 10 September 1989, and was extended further east to Nonami on 30 March 1994. Automated wickets compatible with the manaca smart card began operating on 11 February 2011, platform-screen doors followed on the Sakura-dōri Line on 30 April 2011 and on the Higashiyama Line on 29 November 2015. Lifts to the Higashiyama Line platform opened on 21 December 2011 and a within-fare-gate transfer lift between the two lines on 11 June 2021.

Notes

On 16 March 2021 sparks from welding work on a new lift ignited oily dust on an existing escalator, briefly halting both the Higashiyama and Sakura-dōri lines; the escalators were not fully restored until February 2022.
