History

Hoshigaoka Station, on the Nagoya Municipal Subway's Higashiyama Line in Chikusa-ku, opened on 30 March 1967 with the extension from Higashiyama-kōen. It became an intermediate station two years later, on 1 April 1969, when the line was extended to Fujigaoka. Manaca IC fares began on 11 February 2011 and platform-edge doors entered service on 31 January 2016. In May 2021 a roughly one-metre-square section of ceiling finish material — weighing an estimated 13.5 kg — fell to the platform; no injuries were reported, but visual annual inspections had failed to detect the defect.

Notes

Among Nagoya Municipal Subway stations with no transfer connections, Hoshigaoka is the second-busiest after Yabachō; it outperforms transfer-station rivals such as Imaike in daily ridership thanks to its Mitsukoshi department store and the Hoshigaoka Terrace retail complex above the platforms.
