History

Hon-Yoshiwara Station opened on 18 April 1950 as the original Yoshiwara Station, the first terminus of the Gakunan Railway. After the line was extended to Gakunan-Fujioka on 20 December 1951 it became an intermediate stop, and on 10 April 1956 it was renamed to its present name. The station lost its staff in 1993, and its wooden building was removed the following year due to deterioration; only the island platform and curved 1968-built canopy remain. On 19 March 2021 the platform and platform canopy were proposed for listing as Tangible Cultural Properties registered with the Japanese government. Operation transferred from Gakunan Railway to Gakunan Electric Train on 1 April 2013.

Notes

The kinoko ("mushroom") platform canopy, added in 1968 with curved tubular steel supports forming an arched roof, was proposed for listing as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2021 alongside the original 1950 stone-block platform.
