History

Sasabara Station opened on 31 January 1988 at Sunagairi, Sasabara-chō, Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, when the Aichi Loop Railway began service between Shin-Toyota and Kōzōji as a single-platform single-track station. Platforms were extended from two-car to four-car length during fiscal 1989, and on 23 December 2001 the layout was rebuilt to two opposed platforms serving two tracks — a change that allowed it to become a regular train-crossing point, taking over a role previously performed mainly at the adjacent Homi Station. The TOICA IC card came into service on 2 March 2019.

Notes

The line layout retains a remnant of the station's original single-platform configuration: the down platform is built as a one-line-through track, and even some up-direction trains pass through using this down-side main line; the down main line is also unusual in not having a safety siding installed.
