History

Kanie Station opened on 24 May 1895 as a Kansai Railway stop on the Nagoya–Yatomi segment of what is today the Kansai Main Line. The line was nationalised on 1 October 1907, and from 12 October 1909 it took its present line name. Freight service ended on 1 October 1961 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station joined JR Central at the 1987 privatisation, and TOICA support began on 25 November 2006. An overhead station and pedestrian crossway opened on 31 January 2021, replacing the surface station, and the centralised remote-service system began the following day. Station number CJ03 was assigned in March 2018.

Notes

Kanie is locally referred to as "JR Kanie Station" to distinguish it from Kintetsu Kanie about 1.5 kilometres to the south.
