History
Awa-Katsuyama Station opened on August 1, 1917 and is operated by JR East on the Uchibō Line in the town of Kyonan, Chiba Prefecture. Freight handling ended in 1969, parcel service in 1984, and the station was placed under JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on April 1, 1987. From September 1, 1994 it was no longer staffed at night, and Suica was introduced on March 14, 2009. On March 15, 2014 the former platform 1 was removed in the earliest single-tracking of an Uchibō Line crossing station, leaving a single side platform. The Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office closed in 2017 and the station was unattended from April 1, 2020. Since July 16, 2024 the adjoining Awa-Katsuyama Station Post Office has handled ticket counter duties under contract from JR East.
