History

Tarōbōgū-mae Station opened on December 29, 1913 as Tarōbō Station on the Konan Railway, the predecessor of today's Ohmi Railway Yōkaichi Line. The line was absorbed in turn into Lake Biwa Railway and Steamship in 1927, the Yōkaichi Railway in 1929, and Ohmi Railway in 1944. The station closed in June 1945 and reopened in July 1949, and was renamed to its present form on April 1, 1998. A redevelopment of the station precinct refurbishing the platform canopy, station square and bicycle parking was completed on November 2, 2021. The station consists of a single side platform serving one bi-directional track and is unattended.

Notes

Before the war, Tarōbō Shrine and the Yōkaichi Airfield were the leading attractions on the line; local subscriptions funded the rebuilding of the station in 1927 to handle the surge of pilgrim traffic, which also triggered the station's first staffing.
