History
Tsurusato Station opened on 30 March 1994 as part of Nagoya's Sakura-dori subway line in Minami-ku, Nagoya. The line was completed in stages by the Nagoya City Transportation Bureau, and the station was given the code S16. The platform sits within Nagoya's only double-track shield-driven tunnel section, which allows trains moving in opposite directions to pass within close quarters at the station. Platform-screen doors were brought into service on 16 July 2011. The station is administered through the line's Imaike district office and was built to accommodate eight-car trains of 20-metre vehicles.

Notes
The tunnel north of Tsurusato is the only twin-bore shield-driven section on the entire Nagoya subway network, so passengers on opposing trains can see each other passing close by as they cross at the station.
