History

Tokushige Station opened on 27 March 2011 as the new terminus of the Sakura-dōri Line, capping the 4.2 km extension from Nonami. Construction began in 2006 in two work zones, with western contractors Shimizu-Nishimatsu-Tekken handling the first zone and Kashima-Toda-Tokyu the second; both used cut-and-cover methods, and the originally scheduled opening was brought forward. The line's depot is located directly under the Tokushige Intersection just south of the station, with the station itself sitting under Tokushige-Ekimae Intersection. Operations passed from the Sakurahonmachi District Office to the dedicated Sakura-dōri Line Operations Office in July 2022.

Notes

The station is the network's first to use a double-slip switch — installed where the inbound siding for the depot crosses the line into the terminus tracks, a configuration unique within Nagoya's municipal subway system.
