History
Shimotaki Station opened on 25 May 1899 as part of the original alignment of the Hankaku Railway, the private predecessor of the Fukuchiyama Line, serving the rural Tamba region of Hyōgo Prefecture. It is located 68.7 kilometres from the line's terminus at Amagasaki. The station consists of two opposed side platforms connected by a footbridge to an unattended station building. Like the rest of the Hankaku Railway, the line was nationalised in 1907, eventually becoming part of Japanese National Railways' Fukuchiyama Line. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, Shimotaki passed to West Japan Railway Company, which has operated it ever since.
