History
Iwami-Fukumitsu Station opened on 25 October 1928 as part of the Imperial Government Railways' San'in Main Line, serving the Fukumitsu district of what is now Ōda, Shimane Prefecture. It is 440.8 kilometres from the line's terminus at Kyoto. Freight handling ended on 15 June 1973, ticket-issuing was contracted out in June 1977, parcel service ended in February 1984, and the station became unattended on 14 March 1984. At JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West. The line's high-speed upgrade in March 2001 removed the passing loop, reducing the layout to a single side platform; the second platform and track were dismantled at the same time.
