History

Teramae Station opened on 26 July 1894 as the original northern terminus of the Banshū Railway’s Himeji line, with passenger and freight handling from the first day. On 15 January 1895 the line was extended further north to Hase, making Teramae an intermediate stop. The railway was transferred to the San’yō Railway in 1903 and nationalised in 1906, becoming part of the Bantan Line on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended in October 1982 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station became part of JR West with privatisation on 1 April 1987. Limited-express "Hamakaze" trains began calling on 16 March 1996. The Himeji–Teramae section was electrified on 14 March 1998, making the station the boundary between the electrified southern section and the diesel-only line north to Wadayama. ICOCA support began on 26 March 2016.

Notes

In June 1996 the station became the focus of a brief security alarm when an anonymous caller telephoned a bomb threat claiming explosives had been planted between Teramae and Wadayama, suspending services on the line for more than three hours while inspectors confirmed there was no device.
