History

Myōshinji Station opened on 3 November 1925 as one of the original stops on the Arashiyama Electric Railway Kitano Line, operated by Kyoto Dentō. With the line transfer on 2 March 1942 it passed to Keifuku Electric Railroad (Randen). The station sits in the Hanazono Tenju-ga-oka neighbourhood of Kyoto's Ukyo Ward and serves the Myōshin-ji temple complex immediately to the south. It has two staggered ground-level platforms forming a single-track passing section, and a level crossing between the platforms carries Kyoto Prefectural Route 101 (Ginkakuji-Utano Line).

Notes

The Kyoto City Bus stop in front of the station was renamed from "Keifuku Myōshinji-eki-mae" to "Randen Myōshinji-eki-mae" on 18 March 2017, matching the Randen brand adopted by Keifuku for its tram lines.
