History
Arashiyama Station opened on November 9, 1928 as the terminus of the Hankyu Arashiyama Line, then a branch of the new Shin-Keihan Railway aimed at the Arashiyama tourist district. Originally built with six platforms serving five dead-end tracks in anticipation of heavy sightseeing traffic, the station was reduced after the war to three platforms and two tracks, with the old platforms left in place and now landscaped with trees. The line passed to Keihan Electric Railway in 1930 and to Keihanshin Express Electric Railway (the present-day Hankyu) in 1943. The station building was renovated in October 2010 to evoke a traditional Kyoto townhouse, and station numbering HK-98 was introduced in December 2013.

Notes
Arashiyama is the highest-numbered station on the Hankyu network (HK-98) and the only Hankyu terminal whose platforms are bounded by tracks on both sides.
