History
Shigehara Station serves the Meitetsu Mikawa Line in Chiryū, Aichi, 2.2 kilometres from the line's terminus at Chiryū. It opened on 6 April 1923 as a temporary stop on the privately owned Mikawa Railway that operated only for the local Kōbō-en-nichi festival days. The line was electrified on 5 February 1926, and at the same time the stop was upgraded to a permanent station. The Mikawa Railway was absorbed by Meitetsu on 1 June 1941. The Chiryū-to-Shigehara segment was double-tracked on 11 April 1976, the station became unattended on 22 December 1979, and a new station building was completed in September 2005 under Meitetsu's centralised management system run from Chiryū.
