History
Nishiwakishi Station opened on 22 October 1913 as Nomura Station (野村駅) on the Banshū Railway between Taki and Nishiwaki, and was extended to Tanikawa on 27 December 1924. Operation passed to the Banshū-Hantan Railway in December 1923 and to the Japan Government Railways on 1 June 1943, when the line was nationalised as the Kakogawa and Kajiya Lines. Goods handling ended in 1962 and parcel handling in 1973. The station passed to JR West with the JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987. On 1 April 1990 the Kajiya Line was closed and the station — long overshadowed by Nishiwaki Station one stop away on the closed line — was renamed Nishiwakishi to inherit the "Nishiwaki" name for the city centre.

Notes
When the Kajiya Line closed in April 1990, the old Nomura Station was renamed Nishiwakishi to inherit the "Nishiwaki" name from the now-defunct Nishiwaki Station one stop away — which until then had been the closer of the two stations to the city centre.
