History

Ishihama Station opened on 15 April 1957 on the Taketoyo Line in what is now the town of Higashiura, Aichi Prefecture, more than seventy years after the line itself had been completed. Local petitions began in 1953 led to authorisation in October 1956 and the station's opening the following spring. Japanese National Railways operated the station until 1 April 1987, when JR Central took over at privatisation. A passing loop and second platform with footbridge were added in March 1989 in conjunction with elevation work at neighbouring Ogawa Station. Automatic ticket gates and TOICA were introduced in 1992 and 2006 respectively; the line was assigned station numbers in March 2018, with Ishihama designated CE03.

Notes

Ishihama was originally a candidate site when JNR added several stations to the line in 1933 along with Owari-Morioka, Owari-Ikuji, and Fujie, but the local Ishihama area was passed over and had to wait another twenty-four years for its own station.
