History

Akahori Station opened on 6 October 1912 as part of the Mie Tramway between Hinaga and Minami-Hamada, a narrow-gauge line that became the Mie Railway in 1916. Wartime consolidation transferred it to Sanco on 11 February 1944, and that November the stop was moved roughly 100 metres closer to today's Asunarō Yokkaichi terminal. The railway division spun off in 1964 as the Mie Electric Railway and was absorbed by Kintetsu on 1 April 1965. Yokkaichi Asunarō Railway has operated the Utsube and Hachiōji lines since 1 April 2015, with the station building owned by the city of Yokkaichi. ICOCA acceptance began on 21 August 2021.

Notes

Despite serving as a stop on the Utsube Line, the platform is also used by Hachiōji Line trains that branch off at neighbouring Hinaga and continue through to Asunarō Yokkaichi.
