History

Ishiga Station opened on 25 October 1928 when the Ministry of Railways extended the Hakubi Line south from Bitchū-Kawamo to Adachi, although scheduled trains began calling here only from 25 November of that year. The Shōwa Emperor's imperial post-war tour train made a stop on 11 December 1947. Freight handling ended in 1982, parcel service in 1984, and the station was made unstaffed on 31 March 1984. With JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987 it became part of JR West. ICOCA acceptance began on 13 March 2021. Simple-agency ticket sales ran from the on-site taxi office until 30 September 2022, after which the station was made permanently unstaffed.
