History

Higashi-Mukō Station opened on 1 November 1928 as Higashi-Mukōmachi Station when the Shinkeihan Railway extended its line from Takatsuki-machi to Kyoto Saiin. Corporate consolidation took it into Keihan Electric Railway in 1930 and then into the wartime Keihanshin Kyūkō Dentetsu — Hankyū's predecessor — in 1943. With the Shinkeihan Line renamed the Kyoto Line on 1 December 1949 it became part of today's Hankyū Kyoto Main Line. The platform was lengthened to 160 metres in August 1972, and on 1 October that year the station was renamed Higashi-Mukō to match the elevation of the surrounding town to city status. Station numbering HK-79 was introduced on 21 December 2013.

Notes

JR West's Mukōmachi Station is only 500 metres away and is easily reached on foot, making Higashi-Mukō a de facto transfer point between the Hankyū Kyoto Line and the JR Kyoto Line.
