History
Ieyama Station was opened on 1 December 1929 as one of the original stations of the Ōigawa Main Line, sited in what was then the town of Kawane (merged into Shimada City in 2008). The wooden station building, with its signage replaced in 1997 in a calligrapher’s hand donated by local supporters, is a favourite of railway photographers shooting the line’s steam excursions. After Typhoon No. 15 in September 2022 closed the entire line, services from Kanaya were restored to Ieyama on 16 December 2022, and operations onward to Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado resumed on 1 October 2023, when Ieyama also became a stop for new rapid-express and section-express services.
