History

Mochimune Station traces its origin to a signal box established at the present site on December 21, 1902, on what is now the Tōkaidō Main Line in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka, the southernmost JR station in the city. The signal box was rebuilt into a regular passenger and freight station on November 1, 1909. Freight handling ended in 1974 and the station passed to JR Central at JNR privatization on April 1, 1987. TOICA fare-card service started on March 1, 2008 and barrier-free works finished on November 29, 2014. Station numbering CA19 was introduced in March 2018, and demolition of the current building began in September 2025 ahead of a new one due in summer 2026.
