History

Minami-Sakurai Station opened on 29 June 2008 on the Meitetsu Nishio Line in Mizuyari, Ogawa-chō, Anjō, Aichi. The Minami-Sakurai signal station had been established eight days earlier, on 21 June 2008, with the section north to the neighbouring Hekikai-Sakurai Station double-tracked at the same time. The Transpass magnetic-ticket system began with the station's opening; manaca IC cards came into service on 11 February 2011, and Transpass was withdrawn on 29 February 2012. The station was promoted to a stop served by express (kyūkō) trains on 16 March 2019. From its opening until Kagiya-Nakanoike Station on the Kōwa Line opened on 16 March 2024, Minami-Sakurai was the newest station on the Meitetsu network.

Notes

Most users of Minami-Sakurai are workers commuting to the nearby Aisin Anjō and Nishio Die-Cast plants — the surrounding land is mostly rice fields, with few houses or shops.
