History

JR Ogura Station is on the Nara Line in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, operated by JR West. The Kinki Transport Bureau authorised the new station on 2 October 1998, construction began on 26 February 1999, and the station opened on 3 March 2001 in conjunction with double-tracking between Shinden and Uji. It was the first new Nara Line station of the 21st century and the only one opened in that century. Because the nearby Kintetsu Ogura Station already existed, the prefix JR was added to the name. ICOCA was introduced on 1 November 2003, station numbering JR-D10 on 17 March 2018, and the Midori-no-Madoguchi staffed ticket office closed at the end of October 2025, with the station becoming entirely unattended from 1 November 2025.
