History

Kawainishi Station opened on 10 August 1913 as part of the Banshū Railway between Kunikane (now Yakujin) and Nishiwaki. Ownership passed to the Bantan Railway in December 1923, then to the state-run Kakogawa Line on 1 June 1943 when Bantan was nationalised. Goods and parcel handling ceased on 1 October 1973 and the station became unattended. With Japanese National Railways privatisation on 1 April 1987 it came under JR West. A log-cabin-style new station building was completed on 19 December 2004 to coincide with electrification of the Kakogawa Line, and ICOCA support arrived on 26 March 2016. The single-platform, single-track halt is located in Ono, Hyōgo Prefecture.
