History

Nishio Station opened on 30 October 1911 as the terminus of the Nishi-San Tramway between Okazaki and the town of Nishio; the company was renamed Nishio Railway in 1912 and the line was extended onward to Heisaka in 1914 and Kira-Yoshida in 1915, making the station a four-way junction. Conversion from 762 mm narrow gauge to 1,067 mm and electrification followed Nishio Railway's 1926 merger with the Aichi Electric Railway. As part of that work, the station was relocated eastward to its current site on 1 October 1928. The Aichi Electric Railway merged with Nagoya Railroad in 1935. The current ticket gates and station building were completed in December 1973, and the tracks were elevated in July 1989.

Notes

The replaced 1925 station building was donated to the town of Nishio under the relocation contract and served as the Nishio Police Station from 1930 onward.
