History

Central Japan International Airport Station is the terminus of the Meitetsu Airport Line and the rail gateway to Chūbu Centrair International Airport. The station began limited service for airport workers on 16 October 2004 and opened to the general public on 29 January 2005, ahead of the airport's February 2005 opening. On its first public day around 14,000 passengers visited; when the airport itself opened, Meitetsu carried 52,000 passengers, 70 percent above forecast. A new μSky-only platform on the east side was added on 29 April 2006, expanding the bay platform from two tracks to three. Manaca IC card service began on 11 February 2011. The infrastructure is owned by Central Japan International Airport Line Company and leased to Meitetsu.

Notes

The station sits on an artificial island over the sea and its platforms are enclosed in glass screens, both to block the strong local winds known as "Suzuka-oroshi" and to improve climate-control efficiency.
