History

Saito-nishi Station opened on 19 March 2007 as the new terminus of the Osaka Monorail Saito Line, which was extended from Banpaku-kinen-koen to serve the Saito International Cultural Park City new town in Ibaraki and Minoh. Saito's western district had been opened to residents in 2004, prompting the line's extension. The station's name, replacing the working title "Nishi Center Station", was decided on 22 April 2005. Platform doors were brought into service on 16 November 2019. The station has been built so that a single underpass connects the platform with the station plaza on the same level, an unusual configuration for the Osaka Monorail.

Notes

Because a future extension to Higashi-Center (provisional) was once envisioned, trains terminate via a turnback siding beyond the platforms; the siding runs beneath a public road, the only place on the Osaka Monorail where an ordinary road bridges over its own track.
