History
Takebe Station opened on 14 April 1900 on the Chūgoku Railway main line (now the JR Tsuyama Line), built largely with donations raised by a local citizens' campaign to open a new station between Fukuwatari and Kanagawa. The Chūgoku Railway's rail division was nationalised on 1 June 1944, bringing the station under the JNR Tsuyama Line. Freight handling ended on 15 October 1960, parcels in November 1971 (when the station was also destaffed), and JR West took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987. The original wooden station building still stands and was designated a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on 2 March 2006, with conservation work completed in March 2008.

Notes
The wooden station building served as a location for the 1998 Shohei Imamura film Dr. Akagi (Kanzo Sensei), which the director chose after personally taking a liking to the structure.
