History

Izu-Atagawa Station opened on 10 December 1961 on the privately owned Izu Kyūkō Line in the town of Higashiizu, Shizuoka Prefecture. The station sits on a narrow embankment between two tunnels, with a single elevated island platform serving two tracks; the Itō-side switches lie inside the adjacent tunnel. Because of this constrained alignment the station is not a one-line-through layout, and every train uses its assigned direction-specific platform. A renovation programme from 2005 to 2009 added an elevator, accessible toilets, tactile guidance, an air-conditioned waiting room, and rebuilt the concourse with a domed ceiling and wood-grain finishes. Station number IZ09 was assigned under Izu Kyūkō's numbering scheme.

Notes

The original working name during construction was "Atagawa-Onsen Station"; the present name was adopted by opening day, and the line's Shizuoka Bank branch office still operates inside the station building.
