History
Nishi-Kiga Station opened on 1 April 1938 as a freight-and-passenger station on the JNR Futamata Line. Scheduled freight services were discontinued in August 1962. On 15 March 1987 the Futamata Line was transferred to third-sector operation under the Tenryū Hamanako Railroad, and the station has since served the Tenryū Hamanako Line. The wooden station building and a platform-side waiting room were registered as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan on 26 January 2011. From 1 March 2022 to 31 March 2024 Enshū Shinkin Bank held station-name sponsorship rights, attaching the subtitle "Enchan Prince Misaki" referring to the bank's mascot and nearby Prince Cape. The station is on opposing side platforms connected by an in-station level crossing and is unstaffed.
