History

Katahara Station was established on 24 July 1936 by Mikawa Railway as a temporary stop in Hōi District's Katahara Town, then formally opened at its current location on 2 September 1937. In August 1950 the company repurposed the former Gamagōri police outpost as the station building, and a second track and platform were added in March 1960. Freight handling ended in fiscal 1966 and limited-express and express services stopped calling here on 28 January 2005. After the original station building burned down on 27 August 1987, the replacement opened on 1 September 1988 and the station became unstaffed.

Notes

Today's plain platform shelter replaces a station building that was reborn after fire: the original wooden hut burned down on 27 August 1987 and the current building opened thirteen months later.
