History

Nishi-Miyoshi Station opened on 1 June 1915 as the original Miyoshi Station, the terminus of the Geibi Railway’s extension from Shiwachi, in what is now Miyoshi, Hiroshima Prefecture. The line was extended onwards in June 1922, making the station intermediate, and the Geibi Railway was nationalised in July 1937. After a more convenient station opened nearby in 1930, the new stop eventually took the Miyoshi name and the original was renamed Nishi-Miyoshi on 10 November 1954. The station was the Geibi Line’s last cargo facility, with freight ending on 1 November 1986. With JNR privatisation in 1987 it passed to JR West, and the wooden station building was dismantled in early 2021.
